Plural of Fish: Fish or Fishes?

Did you know that both fish and fishes are correct plurals for fish?

The Little Fish Who Loved to Hide

A little blue fish was feeling quite shy,

He swam near the seaweed, then gave a big sigh.

“I don’t want to play, I just want to hide.”

So he found a small shell and slipped right inside.

A crab came by with a sideways glance,

“Come out, little fish — do you want to dance?”

But the fish stayed quiet and tucked in tight,

“I’m not ready yet... maybe later tonight!”

A jellyfish floated so soft and slow,

With soothing lights and a gentle glow.

“Let’s float together, nice and wide.”

“No thank you,” the fish said, “I’ll stay inside.”

Then a turtle came with a calm, kind grin,

He knocked on the shell and peeked right in.

“Hello, little friend, I like to hide too.

Maybe sometime I can hide with you?”

The fish agreed and said, “Alright”.

“I’d invite you in, but I think it’s too tight.”

The turtle laughed and laughed, then shook his head.

“How about we go for a swim instead?”

The two swam all day in the deep blue sea.

The fish said, “I like to get out when it’s just you and me.”

No longer shy or wanting to hide.

The fish explored the sea with his friend at his side.
