August Kindergarten Speech Activities You Can Do At Home
Three activity ideas you can do with your kindergartener to boost their speech and language skills.
1: Patterns
Finish the Pattern. Recognizing patterns is an early math skill. This is also a basic concept for sequencing (what comes next?). Completing patterns like these can also help with prediction and build vocabulary. Make your own sequencing activities using objects at home. Set out a block, ball, block, ball… Can your child figure out a block comes next? Speech: Practice these front and back sounds. Answers: cake, gate, go, cub
2: Recognizing Letters
I Spy Letters. Learning letters and letter sounds is an early literacy skill. If this is new to your child start by finding the letters that match the ones in the box on the right. Can they find a letter in their name? There should be at least one because this page includes all 5 vowels (A E I O U). If your child can name all the letters, have them name something that starts with each one.
3: Building Vocabulary
Guess the Word. Use the four pictures to guess the secret word. What do you notice about these scenes? Is there something that is the same in all of them? What type of word is the secret word? Will it be a thing, action, or descriptive word? Click on the arrow at the bottom to see the answer.
