September Kindergarten Speech Activities You Can Do At Home

Three activity ideas you can do with your kindergartener to boost their speech and language skills.

Ten common things that begin with k / c or t; car, corn, keys, can, cow, ten, tea, tools, tooth, and table.

1: Beginning Sounds

Help your child learn to read by listening to the sounds in words. Can they tell the beginning sound and the ending sounds in words? Speech: Use this page to target the fronting of /k/ or beginning k and t words.

Six boxes of objects that show one (lock, clock, duck) ore more than one (hooks, books, bikes).

2: More Than One

More Than One. When we want to express that there is more than one of something, we add a plural –s (or –es) to the end of a word. This extra sound is a marker that your child understands this concept. If your child has difficulty producing the /s/ sound, it may be difficult for them to communicate the concept of more than one. Speech: Use this page to target final s in words or ks blends.

A variety of pictures showing kids following school directions like line up or get your backpack.

3: Following Directions

You don’t have to wait until you child starts school to introduce them to words like “Get your backpack” or “Raise your hand.” The first few weeks of school can be stressful and overwhelming. Help your child by developing their listening skills.
